"It is with great sadness that our fellow member and a dear friend (to all who knew him), Bill Webster, passed away on 1st February 2016, after a short illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with Rita, his wife and his family at this difficult time.
I know many of us will find this hard to comprehend as Bill was sailing right to the end of the season – and with John Linnell had cleaned up the Double Handed Series, something that John reminded him of in the last week when he took him his trophy to cheer him up. Bill was always a very sociable and amiable character as well as an excellent if unconventional sailor (with his feet in the air pushing the boom out on light days!) and his constant but amusing banter when you got within a few boat lengths. He was also a fantastic club member, often seen with his welding gear whether repairing gates/fencing or helping John with the “weed cutter challenge”!, or just getting stuck in on countless working parties.
We will truly miss his familiar and genuine greeting to the ladies of “Hello me duck” or something similar – but mainly his love for life, twinkle in the eye and hints of boyish naughtiness!
God Bless you Bill"
