Social Events Welcome to our Social Events Page This is where you will find information on future events where you can meet old friends, make new friends and generally have a good time!!
Thursday 6th March 2008 - Duty and Race Training Night at the Clubhouse, 7.30pm A very useful night for new and experienced members. John Townsend and Dean Fountaine went through the rules of racing, It is hoped that another night will be held later in the year.Wednesday 26th March - Quiz Night at Thorpe Malsor Social Club, 8pm Thanks to everyone who attended. Despite the Commodore bringing hordes from Earls Barton (!) Rhian and Jack, Dean and Chris were victorious this year. A good night out, good beer at the TMSC, and a bit of a giggle. And we raised some funds for our club too.Sunday 4th May -Open Day, from 9.30am
More thanks - to everyone who helped out, with everything from taking prospective sailors out on the water, admin duties, refreshments and BBQ. The Open Day was a great success, and we gained several more new members. Saturday 21st June - Cransley Summer Party, all afternoon and into the evening The weather was kind and we had a good night. Lovely buffet, again. Many, many thanks to Ivan and Diane Brown, John and Mary Swingler, Alan and Delia Keech and Judy Taylor for their tireless efforts in getting everything right. Also, Mike Kilsby for being the ticket master, Bob Aves for doing the BBQ, Jane Campbell for doing a brilliant job with the raffle (which raised well over £100 for Club funds), Nigel Austin for organising sailing games, and Martha Berry for chivi-ing everyone along. Sunday 10th August - Comet and Heron Open Another busy day, especially if the weather is good, as we can expect visitors from further afield. If you can help with running the races, in the galley (there will be a buffet lunch for the competitors, plus the usual hot and soft drinks) please let us know.
Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th August - Adventure Summer Camp Yes it's back!! Following the success of last year's Summer Camp we are hoping to repeat the experience, with even more and better activities. For more details please contact Pat Murphy or Ian Wilson-Benn. Photos of last year's Camp are on show in the Club House - have a look and see if you can spot yourself.
Saturday 25th October - Night Race and Bonfire Night, from about 6pm Towards the end of our season we hold our Night Race and Bonfire. The race is really good fun, hilarious for those watching from the shore!! The floating light cubes look fantastic and with everyone trying to grab as many as they can, it makes for some dubious sailing techniques! After the race we light the bonfire and set the fireworks off. They are set up on a floating pontoon and look fabulous as they shoot up into the sky, and are reflected in the water. Then to warm everyone up we have some food and drinks. More news about this nearer the time.
To finish off the year we have Working Parties on Sundays 7th and 14th December, followed by the AGM on Thursday 18th December.
We hope you have a great year's sailing, and join us in some of the events, either as a participant or helping behind the scenes. |
