The Training group has been running RYA courses since 1995. We aim to provide a friendly and safe location to learn to sail. A considerable part of our membership now consists of those who have learnt to sail within the Training Group, and we have recently run a course training another group of instructors.

The Training Group is developing resources and a youth racing programme to encourage young sailors to race.  Three staff are qualified as RYA Club Race Coaches and provide tuition and coaching for the youth group in racing techniques.  

The training group has a growing fleet of boats for teaching consisting of GP14s, Enterprises, Toppers and Picos.

Our RYA Level 2 courses are run over 10 half day sessions, with the aim that by the end of the course you would be comfortable rigging, launching and sailing a boat on your own in light winds.

RYA Seamanship skills courses are run to improve upon the skills learnt at level 2. This module covers anchoring, reefing afloat, man-overboard and other more advanced manoeuvres. Essentially this course encourages you to become an independent sailor in moderate conditions.

We also run the RYA Young Sailors' Scheme which offers certificates at Stages 1 to 3.

In order to allow members to feel confident using the club safety boats we also run RYA level 2 power boat courses.

Courses at Cransley Sailing Club in 2010

The objective of the course is that you should be confident to sail on your own safely in light winds.

Course A: RYA Level 2 and RYA Young Sailors: May 2010

Course fees shown are for Members. Junior membership enables Youths to join in with the Sunday morning training activities.

Powerboat Courses in 2010

An RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is to be run during March & April 2010.  This is a two day course that will be run at Cransley on Sunday 21 March and Sunday 18th April 2010, starting at 0930, through to 1600.  Cost will be £30.00.  Contact Rick Dunsby at training@cransley.org.uk or phone 01536 799151.

An RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is to be run during October 2010, dates to follow.

Youth Coaching sessions take place on several Sunday mornings from April to September at 10:00 - 12:00. Cost £2.
You can use club Toppers or Picos, or your own boat.
The sessions are open to all Youth sailors aged 8-18 who have achieved RYA level 2.
Come along on a Sunday morning and improve your sailing skills in a friendly group! Race training is optional.
And there is a tuck shop open for snacks, hot chocolate etc. :-)
